EAST LANSING, Mich— Michigan State coach Suzy Merchant has added an accomplished in-state player as a preferred walk on.

Clarkston guard Maddy Skorupski announced on Thursday evening that she would be attending MSU as a preferred walk-on for the 2022-23 season. A 5-foot-9 prospect, she averaged 26.6 points a game to go along with 5.9 rebounds and 4.2 steals as a senior. For her efforts, she was named as an Associated Press First-Team All-State honors. She also scored over 1,000 points at the varsity level over her high school career and led Clarkston to the regional finals as a senior before bowing out to Division I runner up Hartland 48-46.

Skorupski will provide quality depth to a backcourt that has lost WNBA first-round selection Nia Clouden and Laurel Jacqmain. The Spartans are set to return guards Deedee Hagemann, Janelle James and Moira Joiner in addition to forwards Matilda Ekh, Julia Ayrault, Tory Ozment and Taiyier Parks. Both Joiner and Ozment have struggled with various health issues over the past two seasons.

MSU also added former Detroit Edison and Clemson guard Gabby Elliot on March 25.

A high school soccer player, Skorupski is the first walk-on that MSU has received for the 2022-23 season.
