EAST LANSING, Mich— Former Michigan State linebacker Chase Kline, a former 2018 three-star recruit, has transferred to Eastern Michigan after entering his name in the transfer portal on Sept. 26.

He is one of seven overall newcomers, including two transfers, for the Eagles 2022 recruiting class that have signed their National Letters of Intent.

In 2020, Kline registered a career-high 29 tackles with two forced fumbles in 226 plays while playing in all seven games. He also compiled 11 tackles in four games in 2021 before entering the portal after MSU’s 23-20 home overtime win over Nebraska.

Overall, Kline appeared in 24 games over a three-year span for the Spartans while notching 52 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and one sack to go along with one pass deflection.

He initially committed to Michigan State on July 25, 2017, after choosing MSU over several notable Power Five schools including Iowa State, Minnesota, Boston College, Purdue and Syracuse. 247Sports rated Kline as the No. 15 overall prospect within Ohio and the No. 23 inside linebackers prospect in the country within the 2018 recruiting class.

Kline is the second Spartan to enter the portal who has since found a new home; cornerback Kalon Gervin committed to Kansas after initially transferring to Wisconsin. Both players entered the portal on Sept. 26.

Wide receiver Ricky White, tight end Trenton Gillison, cornerback Michael Gravely Jr., defensive ends Jack Camper and Alex Okelo, safeties C.J. Hayes, Michael Dowell and Emmanuel Flowers, offensive guard James Ohonba, kicker Evan Johnson and long snapper Nick Chudler still currently remain in the portal for the Spartans.
