EAST LANSING, Mich— After a strong National Signing Day for head coach Mel Tucker and the Michigan State Spartans that saw MSU net 22 commits and four transfers, the Spartans added another recruit to their 2022 recruiting class today in Holland Christian offensive lineman Ben Nelson. He is the fifth preferred walk-on that MSU has landed this season and the fourth offensive lineman.

As a recruit, the  6-foot-7, 250-pound Nelson was offered by three Division I FCS schools in Butler, Drake and Lehigh, as well as several smaller Michigan-based schools including Lawrence Tech and Hillsdale. 247Sports rates Nelson as a two-star recruit and the No. 75 overall prospect in Michigan for 2022.

Nelson is the fourth in-state, two-star offensive lineman that Tucker has netted following Devin Runnels (Flint Beecher), Jake Merritt (Northville) and Andy Hartman (Grand Blanc). All four players are at least 6-foot-6 and 250 pounds.

Florida punter Ryan Echols is the only non-offensive lineman within the 2022 PWO class for Tucker.
