EAST LANSING, Mich—Michigan State redshirt freshman wide receiver Ricky White has entered the transfer portal, according to multiple reports. White is the eighth player to announce his intentions to transfer and is the fifth to do so since the end of the 2021 regular season.

White, a 6-foot-1 wide receiver out of Marietta, Georgia, committed to play for the Spartans in June of 2019. He was the No. 416 overall player in his recruiting class and was the highest-rated recruit in Mark Dantonio’s final class as head coach of Michigan State in 2020.

White was also the No. 40 overall recruit in Georgia, according to 247Sports.

He was one of three players in the class out of the state of Georgia, along with running back Jordon Simmons and defensive lineman Simeon Barrow Jr. White chose to play for the Spartans over teams such as Louisville, Rutgers, Cincinnati, West Virginia, Virginia, and Wake Forest. In his freshman season, White broke out in an upset victory against Michigan, totaling eight catches for an MSU freshman record 196 yards and one touchdown. This performance was enough to earn him Big Ten Co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors.

He had two other receptions in the shortened season, one for five yards in the season opener against Rutgers and one for 22 yards against Iowa, while injuries prevented him from playing in the final three games of the season.

White redshirted in 2021 and did not see any game action. He is the first wide receiver on the roster to announce his intentions to enter the portal. He will have four years of eligibility left as he plays next season away from East Lansing.
