EAST LANSING— Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker has found his quarterback of the future.

Katin Houser, a high three-star quarterback recruit, committed to MSU early on Sunday afternoon. The former Boise State commit is currently the highest-rated prospect amongst the 12 2022 Spartan commits.

He currently plays for St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California, and is the grandson of former AP All- American Honorable Mention selection John Houser. The elder Houser played for Arizona State in the early 1970s and was a two-time all-WAC offensive guard.

Houser, who visited East Lansing over the weekend of June 20, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 27 overall recruit in California and the No. 27 overall quarterback prospect within the 2022 recruiting pool. He previously verbally committed to Boise State on April 1 and decommitted on June 24.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Houser was a major priority for the MSU coaching staff after losing prospective quarterback recruits Nicco Marchiol and Jayden Denegal within the past week. Marchiol, who had MSU listed amongst his top three choices, chose West Virginia on June 21 while Denegal committed to Michigan on June 23.

Overall, Houser held 13 Division I offers from notable Power Five programs including Iowa, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Washington State and Oregon State.

He, along with 2021 wide receiver commit Keon Coleman, are tied as the second highest-rated recruits that Tucker has landed during his time in East Lansing behind only four-star linebacker Ma’a Gaoteote.

With the addition of Houser, MSU’s 2022 class is rated as the No. 27 best in the country and the No. 6 best in the Big Ten, according to 247Sports.
